How do I find the impact factor and rank for a journal?

Answer

The impact factor is a measure of the frequency with which the average article in a journal has been cited in a particular year. Use the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) to locate impact factors. The JCR also lists journals and their impact factors and ranking in the context of their specific field(s).

Step by Step:

  1. On the Library's Home page, click on e-resources, scroll to end of the page, locate Web of Science database then
login then go to Journal Citations Report.

  2. In Journal Citation Reports, choose the "Search for a specific journal" option from the main JCR search page and click Submit.

  3. Enter the journal title and click Search.

  4. You will be taken to the Journal Summary List for that journal.

  5. The impact factor for the most recent year available will be listed in the table of information.

  6. To get to the journal ranking, click on the Abbreviated Journal Title in the table.

  7. From this page, click the Journal Ranking button to view the journal rank in its respective category/categories.

  8. On the Rank in Categories page, note the journal rank. A journal title may be ranked in more than one category, depending on the content of the journal.
